Jena has always loved a good proposal story. Almost as much as she loves planning one. Jena attended Georgia Southern University where she majored in Fashion and Business Marketing. After graduating, she moved to New York City where she found her love for event planning.
She planned everything from runway shows at New York Fashion Week, to events at the Javits Center. She also freelanced for an online publication, covering runway shows of some of her favorite designers and brands such as, Rebecca Taylor, Jason Wu, Tibi, Cynthia Rowley, and Chris Benz, to name a few.
Jena loved Manhattan, and all that it offered, which wasn't much when the market crashed in 2008. She decided to further her education, which led her to Charleston, South Carolina. While attending the College of Charleston, Jena worked with Charleston magazine as an event assistant. After graduating with a Communications degree, she landed a job as an event specialist at the Gibbes Museum of Art.
Jena has witnessed more than 250 couples say I do at the Gibbes Museum, and her first question is always, "How did they propose?," As she intently listened to each couples proposal story, she fell more in love with the idea that the wedding journey doesn't start when you choose a venue, or hire an event planner. Instead, it starts with those four little words, "Will you marry me?"
After planning countless proposals for her friends, experiencing a proposal herself (thanks, Todd!), welcoming her cuddly, and sweet (most of the time), Goldendoodle, Beau, and then her beautiful, and sassy, daughter, Collins into the world, Propose Charleston was born.
